Some people have talked about it in the d3 beta thread. Just wondering who all is excited for it? I almost never pre-order any game ever, but I did for this just so I could get my hands on the beta events. Game looks amazing.

A lot actually. One thing, it isn't a generic MMO, guild wars was out long before wow and other wow clones. They've been working on gw2 for a pretty long time, and they aren't committed to a release date because they rather polish the game and make sure it is perfect. Also, there is no longer the tank, healer, and dps classes like every other MMO. While, obviously, there are still classes that can be better at those roles, they aren't defined or required. The questing system is also pretty interesting too. You don't go from town to town gathering quests. Instead you go from area to area and, other than the story line quests, you just receive quests for those areas. Some of them are what they call "dynamic quests" where you either succeed or fail and that determines the next part of the quest. It is pretty interesting, and reminds me of the group quests that were in Warhammer online, that I really enjoyed. However, these dynamic quests scale to who is taking part in it. So a good majority of them you can just do on your own, and don't have to worry about people being in the same area as you. Though some of the the more difficult ones do require a party of people. I also really like the class setup and the races. Every race can play every class, and there isn't a huge difference between the races. Of course they look different, and have different elite skills, but you can just pick whatever race you want to be, and don't have to worry about not having the right race for the class that you are playing. The skills are totally different too, even from Guild wars (1). People that like WoW, and only want to play a game like Wow, are not going to like GW2. You don't have a bunch of skills that you put all across your screen and set up random micros for. You only have skills 1-0 (1234567890) on your keyboard, and then maybe some for f1 - f4 depending on the class. 5 of your skills are dependent on the weapon(s) you are carrying. Which you can quick switch between two sets in combat. The other 5 are utility/elite skills. One of them is going to be your heal, which every class gets, some of the heals are just for you and some of them are group heals. For instance I think the thief's heal will heal you and also teleport you back and put you in invis. Each class has (i think) 3 heals they can pick from with skill points, maybe 4. Then there are utility skills, which I don't really know much about, but basically are class specific things that can help you do whatever role you want to full fill. Some will do more damage, some might buff your teammates, ect. Then your utility skill is kind of like an ultimate in hon/dota/LoL. basically your big finisher skill or however you want to see it. As you can see i've spent a lot of time looking at the game, and i'm really looking forward to it. One of the big things that made me pre-order was listening to the devs talk about the game. They seem extremely player oriented, and are really focused on bringing the best experience, and not just making money. Last edited: Sun, 22 Apr 2012, 06:08pm by defiance |

http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2EE83973FE2CC4F2&feature=plcp I really like these guys, they aren't exactly the most informative, but they show off a LOT of the game and are pretty entertaining. Might wanna check out their videos instead of reading my (most likely) semi accurate essay. |

I pre-ordered the digital CE so that I can be a cool kid and show off my dumb stuff. There's a beta next weekend for everybody that has pre-ordered so maybe we should all team up and play together? :> I am the captain of fapping. |

I preordered just because I love Arenanet. I played a lot of GW PvP back when it was just Prophecies and loved everything about their commitment to balancing builds and encouraging competitive play. I remember there being a $100,000 tournament where the top guilds were flown to Taipei by Anet. I think there were several subsequent tournaments, but I had put the game down at that point. They've proposed a game of such a grandeur that I am expecting it to have some serious growing pains on both the technological and balance side of things. Either way, it's Anet, so I expect a game that far exceeds $60 in value, and I'm sure they will iron out the initial problems within a couple of months. edit: oh yeah, I'll probably be pvping the entire time Last edited: Mon, 23 Apr 2012, 05:34am by meb |

I was never to good at PvP in GW, but I really liked how the PvP was about what skills you picked and how you used them instead of who had the best armor/highest level. http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/pvp/pvp-overview/ I love the automated tournament system. Maybe valve could try it out in TF2 and CS:GO?

I played it at PAX east last year, and I played in the last beta stress test. Been waiting for this game for 5 years. I prepurchased it, and I'm ready to go bananas next weekend. ALSO Check out these character builders! Last edited: Mon, 23 Apr 2012, 06:02am by SHOCK |

i'm buying this game even though i haven't played the first guild wars before none of my irl friends have played guild wars either, which is probably why i never tried it out when it first came out. hopefully some tf2 people will play with me, especially considering how none of my irl friends play any computer games anymore ._. my main questions are if there are skill resets or will you be stuck with however you build your character permanently, if skill builds matter a lot (or if i can build a character however i want - i kind of want to be a pet orientated ranger), and is the microtransactions in this game going to be anywhere near as chaotic as the tf2 hat economy |

guild wars is built around the idea that you don't get stuck doing any one thing. for example, their crafting system. you get 2 professions. if i get to level 100 in artificer and 150 in weaponsmith, in any other mmo, in order to pick up a new profession i'd have to drop weaponsmith and lose all the built up skill points. in gw2 if i drop the profession, i can pick it back up and be at the same level as when i dropped it. also i think there will be a number of different microtransaction things such as buying additional character slots, expansions, etc. |
