So my old headset broke and I decided to buy the Razer Carcharias headset (I've heard good things). However, when I initially plugged it in and tested it, my mic could barely be heard and the sound was just awful. When listening to music the vocals were barely audible, the bass is muffled, and high tones cause screeching and beeping noises. I read up online about an adapter being the problem solver and bought a sound blaster adapter, the headset still doesn't work and sounds awful.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Um... if you're plugging it into the front ports on your computer try plugging it into the back of your computer, or plugging it into your phone/mp3 player. If it still messes up with those, then it's a broken headset.

Also, wtf is a sound blaster adapter???

Well there's your problem, you listened to the guy at bestbuy when you asked him a question about gaming headsets. There are times when consulting the internet is a MUCH better option and this was/is one of those times.

Also, do they work in the back ports on your computer or on your phone or mp3 player? If not, the headset is faulty and you can send it back for either a replacement or a pair of headphones and a mic.

Front audio ports are notoriously bad. It's often due to a spotty cable connection, but it could be any kind of dumb interference or some other problem. If you go in and make sure everything is plugged in right in your computer, it could fix it.

Although I normally don't vouch for Razer or Best Buy salesmen, the Razer Carcharias is actually a good product as far as gaming headsets go.

Eh?

Don't vouch for Razer, check.
Don't vouch for Best Buy salesmen, check.
Razer Carcharias is a good product when compared with the vast majority of gaming headsets, check. (The "as far as gaming headsets go" is the key clause here, although maybe I should have also added a price range constraint to exclude Sennheiser gaming headsets, etc)

Seems fine to me.

Lol, someone posts a question about a Razer product and everyone bashes him.

I've owned a pair of those and they are mega-comfortable and the sound quality is wonderful.

People who hate Razer remind me of the majority of people now who need 'gluten-free' everything.. because it's trendy. Wait that person before me in line got a gluten free sandwich.. I should too! That person in the supermarket bought some gluten free pasta.. I mean there must be a reason... so I should too!

(I'm well aware these would never be an 'audiophiles' choice, with good reason.)

Buick is spot on with that post. Its trendy to be anti-razer, and some people just automatically attack all of their products after trying like one thing, or in some cases, NOTHING at all. I used to be the same way. When they first put out the boomslang back in the day i tried it, hated the shape. I tried a few other mice later on, hated the shape. At a lan papasmurf let me try his deathadder and I really liked the shape, and soon after that they made a lefty deathadder and I jumped at it. I love it, been a razer fan ever since.

As far as I see it, here is how razer products stack up.

Mice: you have the deathadder, and then everything else. Some are decent, some suck, but the deathadder is great.

Mousepads: the goliathus is a great pad, some of their hard pads are pretty good too, but overall they do make good pads.

Audio: a mixed bag. the really expensive headsets arent worth the money, and their earbuds are overpriced. The midrange headsets like the carcharias are great tho. Like buick said, they arent for a true audiophile but for the average user, they are great for music and games.

keyboards: lol, they suck.

as a company razer is actually really good too. they treat their customers really well. they have replaced things for me that were outside of their warranty before, and when i tried their shitty mechanical keyboard they covered the cost of shipping for me to return it, and even sent me 2 of their keyboard bags (for lans), a free mousepad of my choice, and some other random stuff.

retired?

It took a lot of work to get this headset working right (I have the same).

Try playing with it on another computer - the mic is still really quiet prior to boosting, but such is life. I'm happy with it overall.

Just look around for your different colored ports and be sure they're matched up - I had to flip windows 7's HD audio thing on to get it to finally work right.
